Where are you from and where do you call home now?
I am from Madison Lake, MN. I still live there.
How did you meet your first Vizsla?
I met my first vizsla the first day I came home from the hospital. At this time my mom and dad had two vizslas – Colby and Glory.
Avery is a senior in high school and will be graduating this spring! She was very active in Junior handling and we asked her about her juniors career.
How long did you participate in Juniors?
10 years
Tell us more about your first Juniors dog
I started my juniors career showing a Boston terrier named Hunk and I was fortunate enough to be able to show multiple different vizslas at the time until I settled on Reggi who was my juniors dog for the last 5 years.
What was your most memorable moment?
My favorite memory as a junior was winning Best of Breed in specialty and Owner Handler Best of Breed. I then competed in juniors and got reserve best junior so overall it was a great day.
As you’ve finished showing in your final year, what are three skills that you’ve learned from the sport?
Three skills I have learned from showing dogs are being patient, how to take on new challenges, and how to win humbly and lose gracefully. The way that I have had to learn to be patient is working with dogs that are crazy and hard to control at times but learning with them to work as a team. The way that I have taken on new challenges is by working with a professional handler and learning new skills and working with new breeds of dogs. It has also taught me how to win humbly by being able to accept a loss and when winning to not brag and make it a big thing.
We know all Vizslas are special, but is there a particular dog that is extra special to you?
A vizsla that will always be special to me is Reggi. She was my junior dog for the past five years and she and I have had some great accomplishments. I spend a lot of my time with her and she sleeps with me every night.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation are that I will be attending South Dakota State University to pursue a nursing degree. I hope to continuing to show my dogs as much as I am able.
Do you any advice for someone thinking about joining the Twin Cities Vizsla Club?
I have been a member of TCVC for a long time and have always felt accepted even though I was a kid. It is an amazing club to be involved with and I would say you could not go wrong joining.
